Moving on further with reading of the book “Talk Like TED – The 9 Public-Speaking Secrets of the World’s Top Minds” by Carmine Gallo.
The first secret is “passion” and Gallo emphasizes:
Before we can create and deliver more-passionate presentations, we need to understand what passion is and why it works.
Gallo introduces us to Prof. Melissa Cardon who has studied passion deeply. Here is a link to her paper “The Nature and Experience of Entrepreneurial Passion”. She has come up with a formal definition of Entrepreneurial Passion (EP):
A positive, intense feeling that you experience for something that is profoundly meaningful for you as an individual.
More specifically, passion becomes an entrepreneur’s self-identity.
Next, Gallo delves on why passion works. To begin with, he says:
The business pitch is one of the most critical presentations in business. Without funding, most ventures would never get off the ground. Companies like Google and Apple would never have changed our lives if it hadn’t been for charismatic, passionate leaders who grabbed attention of investors.
Before reading further, perhaps we should begin working on that pitch!
